St. Thomas Villa
Christopher
Columbus missed out when he first spotted St. Thomas on his second voyage
to the New World. Today, the Caribbean Island is a getaway paradise destination
with beautiful resorts and breathtaking beaches that are typically only
captured in a postcard. With such relaxing views and tropical scenery, it’s
no wonder visitors are flocking to the island – some even taking stake
in a St. Thomas villa of their own.
It’s certainly no secret, St. Thomas is a premiere tropic destination
for all to enjoy.
Throughout its history, St. Thomas has definitely seen its share of visitors. Inhabited by the Ciboney people around 1500 B.C., they were eventually replaced by the Arawaks and the Caribs. It wasn’t until the 1670’s that the Danish took control of the island where they established numerous sugar cane plantations. Though the island continued to be inhabited, St. Thomas suffered under Danish rule and through persuasion of a newspaper publisher name David Hamilton Jackson; the United States purchased St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix for $25 million in 1917. Today, St. Thomas residents are given full U.S. citizenship as the island acts as a district controlled by the United States.
Serviced by the Cyril E. King Airport, St. Thomas has enjoyed much tourism during the World War II era. Considering the trade embargo on Cuba, visitors find St. Thomas an ideal destination with relatively affordable airfare and accommodating resort locations. Many come to enjoy their honeymoon or romantic getaways while others come to escape the hustle of the city and take in a little rest and relaxation. Whatever the reason, there’s no denying the island’s beauty – National Geographic Magazine even ranks St. Thomas’ very own Magens Bay Beach as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Also, from golfing to sailing, tennis to scuba diving, there’s always some activity to fill the day in St. Thomas. No matter what you set out to do in this 32-square-mile island paradise, it’s certain you’ll find what you’re after.
St. Thomas has definitely come along way from its days as
a Danish Sugar Cane plantation. With its breathtaking views and vibrant
activities, there are few places in the world that can offer so much in
such a beautiful tropical environment. It’s no wonder more people
every year find themselves on the island in search of rest and relaxation.
Others even find themselves a St.
Thomas villa of their own. Whatever the reason is someone finds themselves
in St. Thomas, there’s no denying this island paradise shouldn’t
be missed.
